The School

Gordano School is a large and highly successful 11-18 comprehensive secondary school approximately eight miles outside Bristol. This includes a thriving Sixth Form of over 350 students that is strongly integrated into the school and offers significant opportunities for Post-16 teaching in over 30 courses. We are the sole secondary school serving the popular town of Portishead, and benefit greatly from being a central part of our community.

We view education as something bigger than just academic achievement. We have a record of considerable academic success, but believe that an education should be about preparing young people for their future lives in a complete sense. As well as consistently positive Progress 8 and Level 3 Value Added outcomes at GCSE and A Level respectively we place great emphasis on student leadership, an unparalleled extra-curricular programme and student progression to their next steps in a wide range of academic and vocational routes.

We value our membership of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership, the North Somerset Teaching Alliance and our role as a Teaching School in delivering high quality support and development for colleagues, both new to the profession and more established. Our size allows regular opportunities for progression into leadership roles.

We were judged Outstanding in all categories in our last Ofsted inspection, but, just as importantly, seek to be a very happy school community with a big heart. This has never been more evident than in the last year, where we have been incredibly proud of the response from our brilliant staff, children and families to the Covid pandemic.

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join a high achieving School on a permanent contract. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the Secondary curriculum as well as the confidence to deliver lessons set in an engaging way and to motivate students. The school is looking for someone who is passionate about education and with the capacity to be inventive in the classroom.

This role allows preparation for the day and the return of materials/work at the end and covers classes during a teacher's absence. The focus will be to keep students on task with work set by teaching staff through the development of a purposeful learning atmosphere and positive relationships with students. Any time not used in a cover capacity will be deployed to support both teachers and support staff generally.

To be considered for this position of Cover Supervisor you must:

  • Have some experience in a classroom environment
  • Be an excellent role model who strives to accomplish the very best
  • Have a real passion and 'can-do' attitude for educating children and young people
  • Be dedicated to your role of a Cover Supervisor and supportive of colleagues and students alike

If you are an experienced Teacher or Cover Supervisor who is able to engage and support students through this stage of education and would like the challenge of a demanding role such as this, we want to hear from you. Equally if you have a PGCE and are looking for your first role within teaching, this is a great opportunity.

The Lighthouse Schools Partnership offers an excellent benefits package including contributory pension scheme, a comprehensive employee assistance programme and benefits (offering discounts on shopping), discounted on-site gym membership and on-site parking.

Once completed application forms should be emailed with a covering letter (curriculum vitae optional) by:
